Leysieffer – The New Kid on the Block
Here at Blackheart’s Coffee we love hearing from new companies in the coffee industry and were thrilled when Leysieffer got in touch. They sent us one of their machines for this Leysieffer coffee machine review and we soon got cracking.
Who are Leysieffer?
Rather than being a new company, Leysieffer actually have some serious history behind them. In fact, they’re a chocolate maker.
Ulrich Leysieffer opened a patisserie in Osnabrück, north-west Germany, way back in 1909. Soon gaining an excellent reputation and producing exquisite chocolate ranges, the company went from strength to strength, all while remaining small and dedicated.
Only since 2015 have they expanded into the coffee market – neatly combining chocolate with coffee – the ultimate pair.
Tried and Tested: The Leysieffer Premium Capsule Machine
We received our test machine within an impressive 48 hours. Why is this so impressive you ask?
Because it came all the way from Germany.
Leysieffer Coffee Machine Review
Packaging and Storage
Neatly packaged, we opened up the outer packaging to reveal an easy to open storage box. This is ideal and yet a lot of coffee machines don’t come in one. What happens if you want to move house?
The machine itself is beautifully simple and took just moments to put up on the counter and plug in. It’s slimline and hardly takes up any room in the kitchen.
We received the black version which looks sleek and unassuming. Because it’s a neat oblong, it sits alongside the wall, near a plug socket and never needs to be moved out of the way.
The Leysieffer premium capsule machine is just that, a capsule machine. It only takes Leysieffer capsules and isn’t compatible with any other type. Which is a little annoying, especially given that many capsule machines are compatible with plenty of different pod brands.
Nevertheless, it’s neat design really did win us over.
Filling up the water tank is very easy and it’s located at the back of the machine. You simply pull it up, fill it up and replace it, slotting it into the back.
The capsule input it sleek and simple. All you do is lift the silver lever on top to reveal a capsule shaped hole! Pop the Leysieffer capsule in and close the lever back down again.
With a power button on the side near the water tank, all you have left is two buttons on top. These depict cups with different levels of liquid. Essentially you can press the small espresso button or the slightly larger cup button.
Don’t forget to place your cup under the spout!
The Leysieffer coffee machine is very simple and easy to use – as you’d expect with such a low price point.
However, it does have some interesting clever bits.
When you lift the capsule lever up to put in a capsule, the empty capsule from before simply drops down into an inbuilt box. This box stores a surprising amount of capsules before it needs emptying.
Energy Saving Mode:
When the machine has been left on but unused for a period of time (not very long), it switches into energy saving mode. You’ll know it’s snoozing because the espresso button will be green rather than blue. Just press it once to wake it up.
Some people just need 30ml to see them up in the morning but others need a full 100ml coffee to get the brain in gear. Luckily, the Leysieffer allows you to programme sizes for its two buttons.
It’s easy to underestimate the power of these little pod coffee machines and there are plenty of rubbish ones out there. However, the Leysieffer capsule machine has an incredible 19 bar pressure. That’s the same as you’d find in a huge barista machine in your local coffee house!
So after all of that, what’s the coffee like?
We were sent three tester packs of Leysieffer coffee capsules; Ristretto, Lungo and Crema. We tested each one multiple times for this Leysieffer coffee machine review.
All produced outstanding crema on top of the coffee and all tasted delicious. Our one downside with these coffees was that they all tasted very similar and while the flavour was good, it wasn’t very varied.
After several weeks of using this machine every day, we are very pleased with it. It’s exceptionally easy to use, heats up within seconds and produces great coffee.
All that for a seriously good price.

Buy this now if:

- Looking for something small, sleek and unassuming
- You don’t want much variation in your coffee flavours
Tip of the Day: When you buy a new coffee machine, always run water through it without coffee for the first cup or two. This gets rid of any plasticky taste or manufacturing residue.
Thanks to Leysieffer Kaffee for this machine to try out. We had a great time testing it and stroking it’s beautiful exterior!
