Baratza Virtuoso Coffee Grinder, 110 Watt
Baratza love their coffee machines they make a good range of them. However, because their range goes from really budget all the way to fantastic, you are really paying for what you get. Baratza are capable of making high quality coffee machines and it’s easy to see where your Baratza fits in the scale; simply, this one is much better than the Encore but nowhere near as great as the Forte.
Small and compact, this grinder takes up no more room than it needs to and has a pleasantly robust build quality. The 227g hopper capacity is just right for home use and the 142g ground box is also a good size.
Perfectly capable domestic machine
The DC motor helps so keep the conical burr cool and the grounds untarnished and also keeps the machine surprising quiet considering it’s grinding coffee beans at a rate of around 2g per second!
Espresso is no problem at all with this Virtuoso grinder and the settings go down to produce an exceptionally fine ground. The grounds across the range of settings are very consistent and it produces the dose quickly and without fuss. The conical burr is of very decent quality and I’d expect this to keep you in freshly ground coffee for a long time.
Sturdy on the work surface, this Baratza Virtuoso Coffee Grinder looks far superior to the Baratza Encore and looks very smart. It’s exterior is shiny and metallic and it lends an air of elegance and sophistication to the process. It doesn’t look or feel flimsy at all.
This is a mid-range coffee bean grinder that isn’t going to survive endless use on a day-to-day basis but will certainly suit the individual or family for years to come. It’s easy to clean and look after, doesn’t make a racket and comes equipped with a timer, something the Baratza Encore doesn’t have at all.
It comes at a good price and if you’re buying a reasonable espresso machine then this grinder will work well in conjunction with it. If you’re on a mission to make excellent coffee then this is certainly preferable over the Baratza Encore while not hurting the wallet too much – remember, this should last you for years and you won’t be hanging out in coffee shops anymore as you’ll have far more delicious coffee at home.
